Antonio Margarito’s Finances

Madison Square Garden, New York, will be transformed into a boxing ring on the 3rd of December 2011, for the fight between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito, competing for the Boxing Super Welterweight WBA World Championship.  The last time these two met in the ring, Antonio Margarito defeated Cotto, a feat that only him and Manny Pacquiao have been able to perform.

Antonio Margarito, amusingly, has the same net worth as Miguel Cotto, which is an estimated $15 million dollars.  A lot of this money comes from the purses he has won during his numerous boxing matches, but he also earns a serious amount of money from promotions and product endorsements, as well as fan club materials of course.

A large chunk of his income actually comes from these fan club materials, such as autographed t-shirts or boxing gloves.  The ones with actual signatures are, of course, the most expensive, but most fans are also perfectly happy with a printed photograph.

Out of the $15 million dollars he is said to be worth, only around $6 million is said to have come from his boxing matches.  Of course, the interest on $6 million is significant, which is continuously increasing his net worth, but it is thought that at least $8 million comes from endorsements, sponsorships and fan club materials.

As you can see, it pays to be a boxer and quite rightly so, considering the physical brutality a professional boxer puts himself through for the entertainment of their fans.  It is said that the match between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto will earn the winner another $5 million, a hefty purse to be able to get your hands on of course.  However, when Margarito faced Pacquiao in 2010, the latter earned a total of around $20 million dollars!

Watch Margarito fight against Cotto at the Madison Square Garden. The boxers earnings for a fight depend on the number of PPV’s sold for the event. Watch boxing live online and see if the show is worth the money.
